We recommend the following weights depending on the type of binding and the number of pages in the booklet. For example saddle stitched booklets with many pages should be printed on a lighter paper to help it stay flat when closed.
Brochures & Booklets - 130gsm to 170gsm for matt and gloss, or 120gsm to 135gsm for uncoated.
Magazine printing - 90gsm to 150gsm for matt or gloss papers, or 100gsm to 120gsm for uncoated.
If you have less than 48pp, you may find you need to use a heaver paper stock to achieve the 2.5mm minimum weight required for PUR Perfect binding (Check the calculator for the current book thickness).
Also remember, if you are intending to post your booklet, the weight of the paper may have a bearing on the postage cost.
Standard A4 copier paper - 80gsm Uncoated
Pizza Menus delivered door to door - 135gsm to 150gsm Gloss
Cover of glossy lifestyle magazine - 200gsm Gloss
As a starting point, we recommend a paper weight at least two weights above the body paper weight for booklets less than 24 pages. Generally, the higher the page count, the heavier weight of cover is recommended).
Some recommended examples:
PUR Bound books must have a cover of at least 170gsm, but we recommend a minimum of 250gsm.
It is advisable to laminate covers for extra wear resistance.
